Aussies shoot from the hip on drills, race

May 21, 2009

The Aussie people have a wonderfully direct way with language, as witnessed by the small town doctor who deftly relieved a case of bleeding on the brain with a power drill. According to today’s Daily Mail, all Dr Carson could remember saying was ‘get the Black & Decker’ and the boy was saved. (Perhaps a new B&D product line beckons in surgical drills? The tagline is ready made – “Kids prone to blood on the brain? Get the Black & Decker. Problem Solved.”)

The Aussie media is happy to represent them unfiltered, too. This witness to a shooting in Sydney’s ropey Kings Cross district has become an overnight ‘celebrity’ thanks to her outspoken description of the gentlemen involved in the incident. (For our money, the man at the end raving about the Glock is also worth a good five minutes of internet fame.) Compare and contrast her words in the video and those reported in the news story below.

Ms Werbeloff appears happy with her new found status – using a grab from the video as her Facebook ID. We wonder what her friend ‘Blade Love’ makes of it all.
