Readers may have been forgiven for confusion at headline on Britain’s Daily Star, which boldly proclaimed, ‘Maddie: Second Child Taken’. Contrary to impressions formed, a second child had not only just been discovered to be absent from the Praia da Luz flat – but a girl who was holidaying ‘just 90 minutes’ (the distance from London to Birmingham) had. Such an event is undeniably tragic, but is somehow even more so when you consider it is now only worthy of mention as an adjunct to the Madeleine case.
Also confusing people was the return of Patsy Palmer to EastEnders, which the actress claimed felt quite ‘natural’, even though she ‘can’t believe’ she had made a return. Quite how these contrary assertions square with her on-air declaration in 2005 that the soap was ‘rubbish’ is anyone’s guess, although the latter seems a better fit.
“I don’t watch Eastenders… it is rubbish at the moment. I don’t get to see loads of it – I don’t know a lot of the new characters…”
Would she return?
“No, I’d never go back.”
